Yes, You Were Right About Writing

I have not been able to come up with a proper topic to write upon for days. I’m the kind of person who lives and breathes data and there were so many topics on my mind that I was confused. Recently, I came across an article on Why Data Scientists Should Write and it made perfect sense to me! Thank You, Conor Dewey, for sharing the article.

A Data Scientist is not just a coder. His codes are not meant to be just lying around in his PC. He should have mastered the art of Storytelling and Showing visual data to people so that his work is appreciated not only by the domain-specific experts but also by the common man. From my personal experience, I would recommend that all Data Scientists should practice the art of writing. It gives you the knowledge, It gives you the clarity, and, It gives you Confidence and you’re Gonna Love It. When you Love It, I guarantee you that you’re Gonna excel.

I would describe myself as an explorer of skills. I started out as an aspiring Electronics Engineer in the year of 2014 and in the first year itself, I started indulging myself in various projects small and big. Those were mostly Hardware related projects with software connections. Anyways, that’s not the point of this article. All I want to say is Document What You Do and that’s where I failed as a Hardware Hacker. I don't want to use the word ‘waste’ but that’s exactly what I did with my time when I pursued my passion for hardware hacking. I coded, I made circuits, I made robots, I worked on various projects, I took part in various hackathons but I never wrote. Forget about writing, I didn’t even care to use Github to save my codes and guess what? They are all gone when my stupid laptop got corrupted. Arvind Sanjeev and Nidhiya, If you’re reading this, I pray for an apology because I didn't follow your advice then or else I would not be in this situation today.

It’s better late than never.

I went on and ended up quitting engineering and decided to have a fresh start so, I pursued Data Science and finally wrote My First Blog. Nothing complicated. Just one, short, precise piece of work. As far as I can remember, I was sleepy and working on a very simple problem and when I finally got it solved, I decided to write! No creativity involved. Just a few lines about the problem and the solution with code snippets. The next morning, I got a message from Dinah Davis, the founder of Code Like a Girl stating that she liked my article and I was thrilled. She also added my article to her publication and thus began my new passion for writing. Although I was not a regular writer back then, I used to spend most of my free time writing. I have a lot of stories in my draft waiting to be published.

Today, I can proudly say that not only am I a Data Scientist but also a Content Writer for various popular publications and websites. I hope this article will serve as an inspiration for many and thank all those who were a part of my journey. Happy Reading and have a good day!
