From Robots to Rotis — I have come a long way

This story might not seem like the typical ones I write about. And I might even lose my followers in this process. But I have reached a point where I want you to know the real me. Where I want to know who I am capable of being. Maybe this is my way of discovering myself.

“ Iyalkk AI maatram ariyatollu alle! ” ( You only know AI, right!)

This remark was made by one of my former colleagues who was mocking me while I was tirelessly working on writing an article on AI. At the time I just ignored the guy and continued with my work. But later on, while returning home, I watched people in Banglore’s “Namma Metro” watch food recipe videos online. Both men and women, I noticed. As soon as I reached home Mom prepared my favorite choru, meen curry, avial, moru along with meen varuthad (Typical Kerala dinner). I gorged on it and fell asleep.

Sometimes I have felt like I have not given enough credit to the little things around me. I was always focused. And if someone or something tried to break that, my whole system would break and I would end up having a major meltdown. There was very little scope for my imagination when it came to simple things like folding clothes and organizing my room, and in fact, decorating my room was a far-fetched job for me. I don't know how my audience is going to react to this story. There is nothing to feel inspired about, but today I feel inspired by myself. And that is what I feel is important. I might be making a fool out of myself, you may think. So be it. But this isn’t a joke to me. I made rotis today for myself and they were delicious. They might have not turned out perfectly but for me and my mom, they were perfect.

Being financially independent is one thing and being fully independent is athukkum mele. The joy I got after eating what I prepared with my own hands was true bliss. And my mind feels so relaxed and composed while I’m typing this. You know what, people are right, if you feel stressed, go and cook, clean your room, or do anything that clears your mind. I’m sure you are excelling at your job, but think again, is that enough?
